Fire scorches storage shed, travel trailer

No one was injured in a South Whidbey blaze Saturday afternoon that engulfed a shed and trailer.

No one was injured in a South Whidbey blaze Saturday afternoon that completely engulfed an unoccupied storage shed and nearby travel trailer.

According to South Whidbey Fire/EMS, firefighters responded to the Book Woman Lane address around 4:39 p.m.

Deputy Chief Terry Ney said the flames were under control in a matter of 20 minutes.

“It was small enough that it wasn’t a big challenge,” he said.

He estimated the shed to measure about 12 by 20 feet and the camper to be about 24 feet long.

Although the fire occurred right next to some vegetation, luckily, the worst thing that happened to one tree was it got singed.

“Two months from now, that would be a big problem,” Ney said. “Right now it’s not a big deal, just because things are pretty green.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Ney said the remains of some fireworks were found nearby; however, there is no evidence linking them to the fire at this point.
