If you live in Coupeville, your utility rates might be increasing soon, and the town council wants to hear your input and address your questions.

The town council will be holding a public hearing during its regular meeting on Sept. 28. The council previously held two public meetings about the proposed rate increase on Aug. 26, but Mayor Molly Hughes said they was only sparsely attended by the public.

Dwuring a previous town council meeting, the mayor said that barring any new information or problems arising during the public hearing, the town will expect to implement the proposed rate increase on Oct. 1, and residents will start seeing the increase on their bills in December.

The revenue generated by the increased rate would be put toward capital improvement projects, such as replacing water and sewer lines, adding a new well and lift station and undertaking major maintenance on the sewer plant and water reservoirs, Hughes wrote in an email.

The public hearing will take place during the council’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.
