Whidbey Island is celebrating Easter with a slew of egg hunts and other events for children and adults this month.
North Whidbey
HomePlace Memory Care in Oak Harbor will kick off the North End festivities with an egg hunt at 11 a.m. April 16. The event will include refreshments and snacks. As HomePlace is an assisted living facility, all who attend the event will need to wear masks.
Oak Harbor Main Street Association will also host an egg hunt April 16 at Smith Park. A sensory friendly hunt will take place at 11:30 a.m. for children ages 1 to 10 with special needs. Another hunt for children ages 1 to 10, divided into age groups, will being at 12:30 p.m.
Another egg hunt will take place that afternoon at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7392 in Oak Harbor. The event for kids ages 1 to 11 begins at 1 p.m. April 16, and participants are encouraged to arrive early. The Easter Bunny may even make an appearance.
On Easter Sunday, Whidbey Presbyterian Church in Oak Harbor will host an egg hunt for kids of all ages after its Easter service. The service begins at 10 a.m. April 17, with the egg hunt following at 11:30 a.m. Visitors need not participate in the service to join the hunt.
Central Whidbey
Meerkerk Gardens in Greenbank will put on its first egg hunt for children 10 and under April 16. There will be two hunts for families to participate in, beginning at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Children 5 and under will search for eggs near the Gazebo, while older kids will hunt in the Secret Garden. The Meerkerk Bunny will also hop in for a visit. Egg hunts for children are included with $5 adult admission into the gardens at no extra cost.
Coupeville residents can celebrate Easter morning in Pacific Northwest style with brunch at Captain Whidbey Inn. Brunch will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an egg hunt happening on Lagoon Lawn at noon. Reservations are required and can be made at www.captainwhidbey.com/happenings.
South Whidbey
South End celebrations commence early with an April 9 egg hunt at The Goose Community Grocer. This event features fun for kids and grown-ups alike with two hunts for four age groups. Kids 5 and under and kids ages 6 through 12 will hunt at 11 a.m., and teens and adults will hunt at 1 p.m. According to the Goose Facebook page, the event will take place in the field next to Sebo’s Do-it Center.
The Clinton Chamber of Commerce will hold an egg hunt at 11 a.m. April 16 at Dan Porter Park. Kids ages 12 and younger may participate in the hunt. Every child will receive a free book from the Friends of Clinton Library. The event will feature visits from the Easter Bunny and the South Whidbey Fire Department.
Another egg hunt will take place April 16 at the Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club in Langley. Beginning at noon, kids 11 and younger can search for eggs and eat hot dogs. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 11:30 a.m. The local 4H group will also bring some animals for people to see.
All Island
In a first-time event for adults, Penn Cove Brewing Company is inviting Whidbey residents all over the island to participate in an “Easter Keg Hunt.” Beginning at 11 a.m. April 16, the company will begin posting clues on social media that lead to the locations of three kegs — one each in Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Freeland.
New clues will be posted every 45 minutes. The three people who find the kegs and bring them to the respective taprooms will receive a Penn Cove Brewing swag basket.
