The town of Coupeville has a new marshal.

Sheriff Rick Felici appointed former Coupeville Deputy Bo Miller as the new head of law enforcement for the town. Former Marshal Shawn Warwick was promoted to lieutenant and transferred out of town last month.

Miller spent 31 years in the Navy as an air crewman. He started working with Island County Sheriff’s Office in 2006 as a reserve deputy and was hired full time in 2014. He served as a deputy in Coupeville until 2017, when he transferred to another department in the sheriff’s office.

During his tenure in Coupeville, Miller made News-Times headlines when he performed CPR on Larry Vail after Vail fell unconscious on Front Street, saving the business owner’s life. Miller said he recently ran into Vail downtown and reported that Vail is doing well.

Miller’s first day on the new job was July 3. The holiday weekend was busy, but Miller said Warwick prepared the town well, because Miller only received one fireworks-related call that weekend.

Miller said he loves Coupeville’s small town atmosphere and is excited to be back and see all his old friends in town — though the “jury’s still out” on whether he will be riding Warwick’s e-bike, he said with a laugh.

“I’m just looking forward to doing the best job I can for Coupeville,” he said.

The town of Coupeville contracts with the sheriff’s office, which is also located in the town, to provide law enforcement.
