Unless some new members can be found, Langley’s Ethics Board is in danger of dissolving soon.
During a city council meeting last week, Lily Fox, a member of the citizen-led committee, alerted council members to the issue during a presentation.
The board is required by the city’s charter and currently only has three members, making it one of Langley’s smaller committees. Although there are two vacancies and one alternate vacancy available, there will soon be more. Fox, who works full-time, is planning to leave the board in January. The board’s chairperson, Bob French, came out of retirement to support the board but also wants to step down from his role.
Recent opinions of the board involve the ethical actions of a former mayor and a former council member. The board meets at 5 p.m. every second Monday of the month, with few outside time obligations beyond that.
Anyone with an interest in city politics or civic engagement is invited to apply by emailing Interim City Clerk Darlene Baldwin at dbaldwin@langleywa.org.
