North Whidbey Middle School runners made an impressive showing at their final meet of the year on Tuesday, with one seventh grader even securing a first-place finish to end the season.
Ten teams competed in the league championships at Fort Nugent Park in Oak Harbor Oct. 18. North Whidbey Middle School came in fourth place.
Coach Mike Briddell said every runner on the team earned a personal record at the championship meet.
Seventh grader Solomon Magnuson capped off a perfect season with a first-place win in a field of 78 runners.
“He took first in every meet he ran in this season,” Briddell said.
Seventh grader Kassidy Neal, the top runner on the girls’ team, placed third in her race on Tuesday. Neal secured a third-place finish in all of her races this season.
Frank Smith, the top eighth grade boy, finished fourth out of 72 runners at the championships, and Eva Bazar, the top eighth grade girl, finished 17th out of 42 competitors.
