The Central Whidbey Hearts and Hammers community dinner is back.
The dinner has taken place annually since 2010, with the exception of the last two years. Now, this Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Central Whidbey residents will once again have the opportunity to gather with friends and neighbors and learn more about an organization dedicated to safe housing.
Central Whidbey Hearts and Hammers first organized in 2009, following the pattern of the original South End organization. The nonprofit facilitates an annual work day, during which volunteers help perform maintenance and repairs for local homeowners who don’t have the means to do it themselves.
The mission is to keep people safe in their homes, board member Kathleen Ryan said.
“The community dinner is a way to bring the community together to get to know our neighbors,” she said.
The community dinner will take place at the Coupeville Rec Hall. All are invited to attend the event, and donations are welcome. Dinner will be provided by Janet Burchfield at Front Street Realty and her team.
Those who attend the dinner can also meet volunteers and learn more about how to apply for assistance or volunteer themselves. Ryan said the organization is searching for volunteers, projects and board members.
This year’s work day will take place on May 6. Project applications and volunteer information can be found online at cwheartsandhammers.org.
