An Oak Harbor woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle in town Tuesday afternoon.

Oak Harbor police and fire departments responded to a report of an injured pedestrian at 12:38 p.m. May 16 at the intersection of Highway 20 and East Whidbey Avenue.

Capt. Mike Bailey of the police department said that a driver, a 22-year-old Oak Harbor woman, was southbound on Highway 20 and turning left on East Whidbey Avenue when she struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was a 28-year-old woman, also from Oak Harbor.

Deputy Chief Mike Buxton with the fire department said the pedestrian was conscious when responders arrived, lying in the crosswalk and describing serious pain in her hip, back and neck. She was transported in an ambulance to WhidbeyHealth and subsequently airlifted to Harborview, Buxton said.

Bailey said the driver was not injured, nor was there any apparent damage to her vehicle. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Bailey said.

Traffic was rerouted from the scene for around 30 minutes, Bailey said.
