Tara Halterman, age 16, died from injuries sustained in a single ca roll-over accident in Oak Harbor, Washington on April 24, 2024.
Tara was born January 2, 2008 in Edmonds, Washington to Todd Halterman and Charlotte Haeckl. In 2015 Tara moved to Whidbey Island and was adopted by her grandparents, Gary and Jamie Halterman. Tara attended Coupeville schools where she was a sophomore at the time of her death.
Tara had a wide range of interests, including horses, art and swimming. She rode English style, hunter / jumper at Harmony Hills in Freeland where she spent many happy years learning this skill. She loved to swim and found joy in swimming whether in a pool or in the sound. Tara also enjoyed drawing and painting and would spend time working on art.
Tara is survived by her grandparents, Gary and Jamie Halterman of Coupeville, her paternal grandmother, Sally Halterman of Edmonds, her father, Todd Halterman of Everett, her mother, Charlotte Haeckl and maternal grandmother, Terri Haeckl both of Boise, Idaho, a half-sister, Teagan Halterman, and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial for Tara will take place at South Whidbey Assembly of God in Langley, Washington on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1 p.m. Tara’s grandparents are deeply grateful for the work of the first responders, Flight for Life and the emergency room staff at Whidbey General Hospital.
