Oak Harbor police officers who responded to a knife fight on Oct. 17 ended up arresting a teenage girl after a foot pursuit, according to court documents.

The teenage victim suffered lacerations on her hand and back and also lost a large chunk of her hair, a report by an Oak Harbor police officer states.

The 16-year-old suspect appeared in Island County Superior Court last week and the judge found probable cause to believe she committed the crimes of assault in the second degree and minor in possession of cannabis.

The girl’s father spoke in court and said he had trouble getting his daughter help. He said her behavior has become more and more troubled.

The girl was arrested earlier this year on suspicion of vehicular homicide. No charges have been filed as investigators await results of toxicology tests. More recently, she was arrested in Skagit County on suspicion of DUI and then allegedly assaulted her mother outside the courthouse, court records indicate.

The judge ordered her to be held in juvenile detention on $1,000 bail.

Last week, a resident called 911 to report that two girls were fighting with knives at a mobile home park on Oak Harbor Street.

The victim told police that the suspect had yelled at and then attacked her and her sister as they were walking by the area. The victim said she was trying to protect her sister when the other girl pulled out a knife, cut her hair and stabbed her through her coat, the report states.

The report states that the girls had previously been friends but had become estranged.

The suspect had left the area when police arrived, but a four-inch knife with a gut hook was found in a nearby trash can.

Soon afterward, a deputy located the girl and tried contacting her. She tried to run away, but the deputy caught up with her and arrested her, the report states.

The girl told police that she felt threatened by the other teenagers so she took out the knife to protect herself; she denied stabbing the other girl, the report states.
