The Burlington Historical Society in collaboration with the Heritage Flight Museum are co-hosting, “Wings Over the Skagit – Skagit Regional Airport’s Role in WWII.”

The event commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the end of WWII in June 1945. This public event takes place Tuesday, June 23, at the Heritage Flight Museum, 15043 Crosswind Drive, Skagit Regional Airport, also known as, the Bay View Airport. The Heritage Flight Museum is located off State Highway 20 and Higgins Airport Road in the blue warehouse building at the end of Crosswinds Drive.

This special evening at the Heritage Flight Museum begins with a tour of vintage aircraft from
6:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a history program from 7:00-8:00pm.

The program will discuss Burlington and Bay View’s local airport’s strategic role during World War II, along with several other coastal airports in Washington State.

The guest speaker is Whidbey Island resident, Will Stein, a retired Army pilot and military aviation historian. WWII veterans and their families are invited to share memories of Bay View during the war. Refreshments will be provided by the Creekside Continuing Care Center.
