Several Navy aircraft will participate in aerial demonstrations off the Navy aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz in the Strait of Juan de Fuca around noon, on Friday, June 13, during a friends and family day cruise that will culminate in a weekend port visit to Victoria, B.C.
The Nimitz aerial demonstration will occur approximately 18 miles west of Ault Field in an area 15 miles southwest from Lopez Island, 14 miles southeast from Victoria, B.C., and 6 miles northwest of the Dungeness Spit.
The aerial demonstration will include flyovers near the ship by several types of naval aircraft. The entire aerial demonstration is expected to last for approximately 30 minutes. All participating aircraft will fly out of NAS Whidbey Island.
Friends and family day cruises are common in the Navy as they give guests a taste of what it is like to be at sea aboard a naval ship. Visitors will get a chance to tour the ship, enjoy a cookout on its roughly 4-acre flight deck, and meet and interact with the 3,000 sailors who makeup Team Nimitz.
