Wildcats pick up 8 state berths | Track

Six individuals and two relay teams from Oak Harbor qualified for the state track meet by placing in the top three at the district finals Wednesday and Friday, May 18 and 20, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Six individuals and two relay teams from Oak Harbor qualified for the state track meet by placing in the top three at the district finals Wednesday and Friday, May 18 and 20, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

The 3A state meet is Thursday through Saturday, May 26-28, at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School.

In team scoring at district, the Oak Harbor boys (57.5 points) finished fifth and the girls (42) seventh out of 13 schools.

Arlington (121.5) won the boys title and Lynnwood (102) captured the girls.

The Oak Harbor girls 4×100 relay team of Amaya Rittierodt, Alana Austin, Janae Payne and Matti Miesle produced the only blue ribbon for the Wildcats. They won the event in 49.42, tying Garfield for the second-fastest 3A time in the state in the event this year. Chief Sealth clocked a 49.26.

Rittierodt, Payne and Miesle all ran on last year’s 4×100 team that finished eighth in the state meet.

Austin was the only Oak Harbor girl to earn a state berth in an individual event, after placing third in the district 200 in 26.06.

Mac Nuanez recorded the best finish for the Oak Harbor boys, running second in the 400 (51.85). Josh Cote was third (52.29).

Jared Gray (300 hurdles, 40.41), Joseph Noland (discus, 151-03) and Tanner Walker (javelin, 152-03) all placed third and will join Nuanez and Cote at state.

Behind a strong final leg by Gray, the 4×400 team, which also includes Nuanez, Cote and Daniel Guerrero, finished third (3:30.82).

The first eight in each event scored team points. The fourth-place finishers will be state alternates.

Fifth, girls: Kaitlyn Chelberg, 100 hurdles, 16-06; Julie Jansen, discus, 105-08; 4×200 relay (Jenna Cooley, Payne, Miesle, Austin), 1:49.45.

Fifth, boys: Gray, 110 hurdles, 15.54; Noland, shot put, 151-03.

Sixth, girls: Rittierodt, 100, 12.86; Chelberg, 300 hurdles, 49.55.

Sixth, boys: 4×100 relay (Guerrero, Washington, Andrew Miller, Cullen Wood), 45.22.

Seventh, boys: Kyle Nickols, high jump, 5-08.

Eighth, girls: Rittierodt, 200, 27.59; Alexis Smith, 800, 2:38.36; Amber Cramsey, shot put, 31-05.

Eighth, boys: Ben Gasper, 3,200, 9:59.82; Ozell Jackson, high jump, 5-06; Garren Guerrero, long jump, 19-03.
