Stone, Wolves honored by Olympic League | Girls basketball

First, the Coupeville High School girls basketball team dominated the Olympic League, then it dominated the selections for all-conference honors.

Junior Makana Stone, who averaged nearly 17 points a game, was named the Olympic League’s Most Valuable Player.

Seniors Julia Myers and Madeline Strasburg received first-team honors, while seniors Hailey Hammer and Kacie Kiel received honorable mention.

Head coach David King was chosen Coach of the Year.

The Wolves were also selected for the conference’s Sportsmanship Award.

Coupeville finished the season with a 9-0 Olympic League record and 15-7 overall.

The Coupeville players received letters and team awards at the season-ending banquet Tuesday, March 3.

Varsity letters were presented to seniors Hammer, Kiel, Myers, Strasburg, Wynter Thorne and Monica Vidoni; juniors Stone and McKenzie Bailey; and freshman Mia Littlejohn.

Sophomore Kailey Kellner received a varsity participation certificate.

Kiel, Stone and Strasburg were named team captains.

Four-year participation certificates went to Hammer (a four-year varsity letter winner), Kiel, Strasburg, Thorne and Vidoni.

Other special awards: Best Defense, Hammer; Best Offense, Stone and Myers; Best Newcomer, Littlejohn; Most Improved, Thorne; Most Inspirational, Stone and Strasburg; Wolf Pride, Kiel; and Leader of the Pack, Stone.
