In her June 14 letter titled, “Attributed quotes about defaced bills misleading,” Becky Spraitzar endeavored to clear the record by alleging that she was misquoted by a reporter and demanded therein that the alleged misquotation be corrected. She stated, “It is important that quotes published be accurate.”

She has a point — accuracy in what is put forth in the media is vitally important. While she stipulated that the person being quoted must be quoted accurately, she made no reference to the accuracy and veracity of information contained within the quote. So, let’s assume that the importance thereof was equal and implicit.

That said, I encourage Ms. Spraitzar to engage in the very activity she professes. In the same letter in which she alleges the misquotation, she also said, “Michael (Monson) has taken a lot of heat, as have I and others, for speaking up for the health, safety and wellbeing of our communities.”

Based on the premise of her letter, and in point of fact, she, Mr. Monson and other COER members have not taken a lot of heat for speaking up for the health, safety and well-being of our communities. They have taken a lot of heat for engaging in behavior which has repeatedly been shown to be tactless, vitriolic, deceitful or self-centered in a bid to further personal agendas under the guise of speaking out on behalf of the health, safety and well-being of our communities.

I commend Ms. Spraitzar for her demand for accuracy. Even in its infancy, it has had a ripple effect.
