The Oak Harbor High School baseball team committed only one error, but it was costly in a 5-3 loss at Mount Vernon in the season opener Thursday, March 17.
After scoring single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, the Wildcats took a 3-2 lead into the sixth.
The Bulldogs combined a hit and walk with the error against Oak Harbor reliever Steven Richards to score three runs, two unearned, to secure the win.
Tyler Snavely pitched the first five innings, striking out three while giving up three walks, three hits and two runs.
Oak Harbor out-hit the Bulldogs six to four.
Kevyn Johnson collected two of the hits and added a run and RBI.
Avery Aguirre doubled, and James Besaw drove in a run with his first varsity hit.
Dylan Bailey also recorded his first varsity hit, and Snavely singled.
Oak Harbor (0-1) plays at Mariner (0-2) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, and then plays its home opener at 4 p.m. Friday, March 25, with Monroe (1-2).
