The sheep have been shorn and the wool is ready to spin for winter clothing. Turning fiber into yarn is the program at the South Whidbey Tilth Farmers Market on Saturday, May 30.
Wendy Ferrier of Thistledown Handwork will present a special program at 12:30 p.m. about different fibers and how to spin. She encourages spinners of all levels to spin with her throughout the day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live music will be performed by the young flutist Emily Dunn-Wilder.
Early summer produce is coming in and customers can expect to find rhubarb, lettuce, spinach, peas, flowers and more. The market also accepts food stamps and will participate in the state’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program in June. Several vendors have unique items that make special gifts for June weddings and graduates. Hot food is available to take home or eat on site.
The market is located at Thompson Road off Highway 525, 6.7 miles north of the Clinton ferry dock, half a mile beyond the Bayview traffic light. The corner is marked by Tilth’s signature scarecrow. Call 678-4168, or visit market@southwhidbeytilth.org.
