In a thriller, the Oak Harbor volleyball team opened Wesco 3A conference play by nipping previously unbeaten Lynnwood 3-1 Tuesday, Sept. 28, on the Royals’ court.

After Lynnwood (0-1, 4-1) took the first set 25-23, the Wildcats responded with three straight wins, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.

Oak Harbor coach Kerri Molitor said it was a battle of two “very evenly matched teams.” She added, “They play tough defense and have a couple of hitters to set forth a good offense.”

Molitor was happy with her squad’s play: “We eliminated some unforced errors and continued to play solid defense.”

Kelsey Terrazas-Cooley led the defense with 28 digs, and Roshel Muzzall and Kristine Bouchard “did a great job blocking,” according to Molitor.

Setter Jordan Faralan guided the Wildcats in a strong offensive effort with 36 assists. Amanda Blau fired 10 kills, Katelyn Bristow nine and Janessa Ramos eight. Muzzall contributed four aces.

Oak Harbor goes to Glacier Peak (1-0, 1-4) Thursday, Sept. 30, then hosts Everett (0-1, 3-2) Monday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
