John Fisken, operator of the Oak Harbor Sports Report, is sponsoring a scholarship to be given to an Oak Harbor High School senior athlete.
The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving athlete who has played at least two sports all four years of high school and maintained a 3.0 or higher grade point average.
Fisken said he would like to honor a student-athlete who plays for “the love of the sport” and not necessarily one who is talented enough to get a college athletic scholarship.
Students interested in applying for the scholarship can contact Chandra Mays in the counseling center at Oak Harbor High School.
Fisken’s Oak Harbor Sports Report, which can be found at oakharborsports.blogspot.com, features information about Oak Harbor youth, middle school and high school athletics. He places an emphasis on those players who don’t often receive publicity: varsity bench players, JV and freshman team members and youth sports participants.
Besides writing the Sports Report, Fisken takes thousands of photographs a year of local sporting events and posts them on his site. Profits from the sale of these photographs will fund the scholarship.
