Recently, we read a letter from Nels Kelstrom stating that we should all attend the commissioners’ meetings to see what a terrible job Kelly Emerson is doing. If you had taken his advice and been there with an open mind, you would have seen the following:
You would have heard Kelly’s letter read into the public testimony as she tried to prevent a new taxing district even before she took office.
Politicians love taxing districts because they are open-ended and the money can be increased as needed. Kelly alone voted no.
You would have watched Kelly try to keep the others from creating a new administrative position with its attendant expense. This new administrator will manage the personnel of the county. Now, why would the commissioners need to extract themselves from that task? This will not get us out of the financial hole we are in, and that’s what Kelly said. Again, Kelly was alone in voting no.
You would have seen Kelly fighting to see to it that the conservative view was represented on the Ferry Advisory Committee. The other two commissioners decided that “independent” was a major political party and nominated another Democrat. So there are now two Democrats and two independents on the Ferry Advisory Committee. Republicans were kept out entirely — exactly what the legal requirement tried to prevent. This is the kind of partisan machinations that take place. Yes, you should go to the meetings and see what happens there.
We do not want commissioners with social, environmental or power agendas. We want sensible, responsible, county government. By all means, come to the commissioner meetings. There will be an election in a year and a half and you will be able to replace two more commissioners with candidates whose only agenda is to serve our county.
