Greening comes to Coupeville

The annual “Greening” of Coupeville takes place Saturday, Dec. 4, again offering a wide-range of fun, family activities. The highlight of the day’s events is the Christmas parade, which begins at 4 p.m. The parade, which features a throng of community groups and an appearance by Santa Claus, will start on South Main Street and go through town before ending up on Front Street in Coupeville’s historic downtown.

The highlight of the day’s events is the Christmas parade, which begins at 4 p.m. The parade, which features a throng of community groups and an appearance by Santa Claus, will start on South Main Street and go through town before ending up on Front Street in Coupeville’s historic downtown.

Following the parade, the crowd will head to Cook’s Corner, enjoy some hot cider and listen to Christmas carols until the annual tree lighting at approximately 5 p.m.

If the weather allows, the Oak Harbor Yacht Club is sponsoring its annual boat parade that will sail by the Coupeville Wharf at around 6 p.m. Between 10 and 20 boats are schedule to participate in the parade. Commodore of the Yacht Club, Byron Skubi, is scheduled to lead the lighted boats on the trek from Oak Harbor to Penn Cove. Should severe weather prompt the cancellation of the parade Saturday night. It will take place the following day.

The Art and Antique walk, held by the galleries and antique shops in downtown, will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. along with many of the other businesses in Coupeville.

Earlier in the day, people wishing to burn off some holiday calories can participate in the Jingle Trail 5K run and 1 mile walk, which begins at 10 a.m. at Fort Ebey State Park. The cost for the run is $20 without the T-shirt and the cost for the walk is $10 without the T-shirt.

The weekend’s activities kick off Friday night with the Greening of Coupeville Concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Coupeville High School Performing Arts Center. “Men of Worth,” presented by Concerts on the Cove, is scheduled to perform. Tickets are $15.
