Tyler Elliot and Tom Chandler continue their winning ways at the United State Military Academy in West Point, New York, and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In his first year at West Point, Elliot, a 2008 Oak Harbor High School graduate, won the brigade boxing championship in the 195-pound weight division.

He has a 5-1 record in his collegiate boxing career and will be competing in the National Tournament in Reno, Nev., later this year.

Elliot won the championship recording a technical knockout when his opponent, Chad Paddock, the defending champion, did not answer the bell for the third round after being knocked down near the end of the second round.

Elliot was named MVP by Atlas and Tessitore for his efforts in the tournament.

In Colorado Springs, Chandler, a sophomore Air Force marksman was the academy’s lone qualifier for the 2009 NCAA men’s and women’s rifle championships.

He will compete in the smallbore three-position (60 shots) competition March 13 and 14 in Fort Worth, Texas, at the TCU Rifle Range and the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Chandler is the academy’s first marksman to qualify for the NCAA championships since 2006 when Chris Hill earned All-America honors in smallbore. His regular-season highs were 587, 580 and 580 for an aggregate 1,747 points and an average of 582.

His 587/600 was a seasonal-best shot in the Reno-UTEP matches on Nov. 15, while the 580s were achieved on Jan. 31 versus The Citadel and TCU, and Feb. 14 at the NCAA qualifier match.

A total of 48 competitors were selected for the championships. The top eight teams including the University of Alaska, Fairbanks; Jacksonville State University; the University of Kentucky; the University of Nevada, Reno; Texas Christian University; the U.S. Military Academy; the U.S. Naval Academy; and West Virginia University were chosen to compete.
