A shaky first half resulted in an 8-1 loss for the Coupeville girls soccer team at King’s Tuesday, Sept. 21

Coach Mike Thornton said, “First half wasn’t the best, but the girls picked up in the second and put pressure on their defense and keeper.”

With 24 minutes left, the Wolves scored when Amanda d’Almeida played the ball over the top to Kelsey Miranda. That put Miranda in a one-on-one situation with the Knights’ goalkeeper; Miranda chipped in the goal.

It was rare goal on the Knights’ field for Coupeville, according to Thornton, and lifted the Wolves’ spirits.

Thornton said, “They were pretty happy. You can see our confidence grow and getting stronger.”

The win lifted King’s records to 2-1 and 3-1-1; Coupeville fell to 0-3, 2-3.

The Wolves entertain South Whidbey (1-2, 1-3) Thursday at 6 p.m.
