Whidbey Island will get a bit of national exposure in the coming months after a film production company shoots a car commercial on the island next week.
Scenes will be shot between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, and Wednesday, April 22, in Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Langley. The Island County sheriff will be providing intermittent traffic control.
Roads that will be impacted are Dike Road in Oak Harbor, Cook Road and Ebey Road in Coupeville, and Bob Galbreath Road, among others, in Langley.
Imperial Woodpecker, based in Los Angeles and New York, is the company filming the commercial for Nissan.
“We are delighted this national TV commercial will be filmed here and think it will be a great exposure and showcase the island,” said Sherrye Wyatt, tourism and film liaison for Whidbey and Camano islands. “There is a positive economic impact when productions are filmed in Island County.”
Wyatt said she works closely with Washington Filmworks to lure projects to the islands. One potential film project in December was scouting in Coupeville and around Fort Casey State Park, she said.
A spokesperson for Imperial Woodpecker said the scenery and roads drew their company to Whidbey Island.
