The Wildcat baseball team exploded for nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings to bury Everett 11-2 at Oak Harbor High School Monday, April 5.

The game was a makeup contest for Friday’s rainout. The two teams meet again today, April 6, at Everett at 6 p.m. If the Seagulls’ field is not playable and the Oak Harbor diamond is, the game will be moved to Oak Harbor at 4.

After giving up a run in the first, the Wildcats took the lead with two in the bottom of the third. Infield singles by Nate Young and Pat Higbee, a balk, and an RBI single by Jay Stout accounted for the two tallies.

Everett (0-3, 1-6) tied it at 2 in the fifth, then the Oak Harbor offense took off.

Oak Harbor (1-4, 4-5) scored three in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Wade Burns’ pinch-hit, two-run bloop double down the right field line.

The Wildcats put the game away with a six-run sixth. An RBI double by Kian Mebane and run producing singles by Josh Evans and Young did most of the damage.

Oak Harbor spread out 11 hits over 10 hitters; Young was the only ‘Cat with multiple hits as he finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Brad Farnum chipped in with a triple.

Sophomore Gabe Clark raised his pitching record to 3-0 by going the first six innings and yielding seven hits and one earned run. He walked none and struck out three.

Coach Tyson VanDam said, “Gabe was very effective; threw very well.” He added, “We played much better as a team today instead of individually.”

After today’s game, the Wildcats will go to Stanwood (2-2, 3-2) Wednesday, April 7, then host the Spartans Friday, April 9, at 4 p.m.
