The Oak Harbor High School swim team’s 200-yard medley relay squad placed sixth at the state meet last weekend to lead the Wildcats at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Wesco’s Shorewood won the team title with 194 points. Oak Harbor placed 16th as Western Conference team’s dominated the meet.

Kamiak, which competes with Shorewood in the Wesco South, finished seventh. All of the Wesco North 4A teams placed in the top 26 out of over 90 4A schools in the state. Snohomish was eighth, Marysville-Pilchuck ninth, Lake Stevens 14th, Stanwood 15th, Oak Harbor 16th and Cascade 26th.

Wesco athletes won seven of the 12 events and placed second in three others.

Oak Harbor’s 200 medley relay team of sophomore Jacob Jepsen, junior Yale Rosen, junior Brandon Vagt and senior Matt Bolte nabbed sixth (1:42.04) for the Wildcats’ best showing.

Junior Price Hu was ninth in the 100 butterfly (54.3) and 12th in the 200 individual medley (2:03.42).

Rosen placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.98) and 16th in the 50 free (22.8).

Jepsen finished 13th in the 100 backstroke (56.93) and 14th in the IM (2:03.78).

The top 16 placers in each event scored team points. Oak Harbor athletes who took part in the preliminaries but did not finish among the top 16 included the following:

500 free: 17th, freshman Josh Jepsen, 5:06.74.

400 free relay: 18th, Bolte, Josh Jepsen, Rosen, Jacob Jepsen, 3:28.95.

100 butterfly: 19th, Vagt, 56.08.

200 free relay: 21st, Bolte, Hu, junior Ben Cardinal, Josh Jepsen, 1:35.74.

Rosen, Hu and Jacob Jepsen all also placed at state last year. Rosen was seventh in the 100 breaststroke, Hu 12th in the 100 butterfly and 16th in the 200 IM, and Jepsen was 16th in the 100 backstroke in 2009.
