High cost for seven people

Regarding the Whidbey News-Times front page on April 16, “Fire district plunks down $1.55 million for HQ.” The fire district has already spent $400,000 but no big deal, now they want to buy a building in city limits so the Island County residents can pay for all the high cost of utilities when we’ve already paid taxes and the new building will house seven people -- must be some really nice offices and large to accomodate seven people.

The “money came from the district’s building fund.” Sure, that was by taxpayer money as well, so why did we close all the other fire stations? Sounds like a real mess to me and we will see higher taxes because of the new building for seven people. Why didn’t the voters of Island County have a say in our tax dollars being used?
