Oak Harbor’s Makenzie Perry and Zena Husler teamed up to finish sixth in doubles at the Wesco North tennis tournament at Stanwood May 7 and 8.
The Wildcats did not qualify any players for next week’s district tournament; only the top four singles players and doubles teams earned district berths.
Sophomore Perry and junior Husler defeated Katherine Chanwiratana and Emily Olson of Everett 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round.
In the second round, the Oak Harbor pair lost 6-0, 6-2 to Caryn Nash and Zanetta Uy of Stanwood.
Perry and Husler began the consolation bracket with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Marysville-Pilchuck’s Sarah Cronin and Claire Esser.
Day two Perry and Husler lost both matches, first to Everett’s Adrienne Muramoto and Sierra Bove 6-2, 6-0; and then to Ferndale’s Carly Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter 7-5, 6-2.
Other Oak Harbor results in the single-elimination opening round:
Singles: senior Kyla McKinney lost to Ferndale’s Trina Byers 6-3, 6-2; senior Brittany Rigby lost to Ferndale’s Jamie Pettinger 6-2, 6-0.
Doubles: junior Chelsea Atkinson and junior Faith Franssen lost to Bannerman and Slaughter 6-1, 6-2.
