It’s tournament time for the Coupeville High School fall sports teams.

The Wolves, along with Cascade Conference partner King’s, challenge District 1’s other 1A schools (Lynden Christian, Meridian and Nooksack Valley from the Northwest Conference and Friday Harbor from the Northwest 2B/1A League) this week in a series of play-in games to determine which squads advance to the next round in the run to the state finals.

Football

Coupeville (0-7, 1-7) travels to Nooksack Valley (5-3) Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. to meet the Pioneers in a loser-out match.

The Pioneers’ losses this year came against the state’s top two ranked 1A teams, Cascade Christian and Meridian (twice).

Nooksack Valley is led by quarterback Trevon Myhre, who took over for an injured Tyler Perry in mid-October. Myhre has rushed for 339 yards and eight touchdowns and passed for 572 and four touchdowns. Before switching to QB, Myhre led the team in receptions with 26 for 272 yards.

Myhre isn’t the Pioneers’ only weapon. A trio a running backs have combined to run for 599 yards and average nearly eight yards per carry.

Kyle and Trey Handy lead the receiving corps with 21 and 17 catches respectively for 266 and 234 yards.

The winner will advance to a tri-district match up with a club from the West Central District Nov. 5 or 6.

Volleyball

Coupeville (5-10) begins sub-district play at Lynden Christian High School Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. against Meridian (4-9) in a loser-out match. The winner will move on to face Lynden Christian (10-3) in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

Friday Harbor (4-9) and Nooksack Valley (6-8) meet in the other loser-out match. The winner will challenge King’s (13-0).

The winners of the second round games will square off for the sub-district title and to determine the top two seeds heading into tri-district.

The losers of the second round games will battle for the third and final berth, the No. 3 seed, to tri-district.

Tri-district is Nov. 6 at King’s.

Soccer

Coupeville (2-12, 4-12) travels to Meridian (7-8-1) Wednesday, Oct. 27, for a 4 p.m. loser-out match with the Trojans. The winner will be the No. 3 seed for the tri-district tournament, which begins Saturday, Oct. 30.

Cross country

By winning the Cascade Conference individual title last week, Tyler King has qualified for the tri-district meet this Saturday, Oct. 30, at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood, south Tacoma, at 12:30 p.m.

The top 25 individuals move on to the state meet.

Tri-district will feature runners who have posted five of the six fastest 5,000 meter 1A times in the state this fall, led by King at 15:24.81. Bereket Piatt of Port Townsend holds the second best time of 15:53.04
