Before the largest crowd of the year, the Coupeville volleyball team ripped past rival South Whidbey 3-1 Thursday on the Wolves’ court.
The Wolves sent their vocal fans home happy with a 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 25-15 win.
Coach Toni Crebbin said, “This is a big confidence boost; it has been awhile since we beat them.”
The win pushed Coupeville’s record to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Cascade Conference play. The win also broke a third-place tie with the Falcons. The contest was the end of the first round of league games. The Wolves get a second crack at top ranked King’s, the undefeated league leaders, there next Tuesday.
Crebbin said the win over South Whidbey was “huge” as her team prepares for its rematch with the Knights.
In the win over the Falcons, Coupeville avoided South Whidbey’s strong middle blockers and had setter Julie Swankie feed outside hitters Jessica and Michelle Riddle. Jessica finished with 15 kills; her sister added 11. Swankie totaled 30 assists and was 18-18 serving. Jessica Riddle also paced the defense with 27 digs.
