The Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team had its bright spots at Glacier Peak Tuesday, Jan. 31, but the Grizzlies had more on the way to a 72-36 win.

Oak Harbor coach Trisha Clayville said, “Our kids probably played their best half of the year the first half.”

The 1-14, 2-17 Wildcats hung with second-place Glacier Peak (12-3, 15-4) most of the first two quarters but had one sloppy run midway through the opening period.

Oak Harbor went up 6-5, then GP went on a 12-0 run when the ‘Cats committed eight turnovers and attempted only three shots.

That helped the Grizzlies lead 21-9 at the end of the quarter, but Oak Harbor outscored Glacier Peak 15-14 in the second and it was 35-24 at the half.

The winners used an 11-0 run in the third quarter and a 10-0 run in the fourth to pull away.

Clayville said the Grizzly shooters heated up and the Wildcat turnovers increased in the second half.

She added, “We played great defense in the beginning of the third quarter but struggled to score.”

Glacier Peak (38 percent, 25-for-66) outshot Oak Harbor (30 percent, 14-for-46), collected more rebounds (42-32) and committed fewer turnovers (16-33).

Annie Leete paced Oak Harbor with 14 points. Dominique Jackson scored eight, Kelsey Rankin six, Jalani Bobo three, Morgan Young three and Ciera Wiser two.

Oak Harbor entertains the one Wesco opponent it defeated this year, Marysville Getchell (0-14, 0-18), in the season finale Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7:15 p.m.
