County looking to fill vacancy on Solid Waste panel

Duties of advisory committee members include review of solid waste programs

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee as a member-at-large representing Central and South Whidbey.

The Board of County Commissioners appoints members to the Solid Waste Advisory Committee with no term expiration date.

The advisory committee consists of 12 members; three from town/city government, two from waste management businesses, four community members at large and three members of Island County government.

Duties of advisory committee members include review of solid waste programs, processes, documents, advising on solid waste policy, and active, consistent participation in SWAC meetings, quarterly or as needed. Implicit in duties is knowledge of materials forwarded prior to any meeting and development of familiarity with the solid waste program in general.

Once working knowledge is developed, time commitments would include quarterly or as needed meeting which last 1-3 hours and attendance at infrequent meetings/ hearings where a advisory committee representative is required.
