Skagit Valley College student Lauren Cribb, of Oak Harbor, was honored March 22 at the 17th annual All-Washington Academic Team ceremony held at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia.
With more than 300 people in attendance, the ceremony provided an opportunity for community and technical college students to be recognized for their academic achievements and community involvement.
This year’s team was made up of 66 students representing 34 community and technical colleges.
Many legislators, college trustees and family members also attended the celebration. Gov. Chris Gregoire was on hand to congratulate the team members for their achievements.
During the ceremony, each student was presented with a commemorative medallion from his or her college president.
Each team member also received a $750 scholarship from the Northwest Education Loan Association and KeyBank of Washington.
Cribb is a Running Start student who has been very involved at SVC for two years. She is completing her associate in arts university and college transfer degree.
She has maintained a 3.98 grade point average while being the president of student government and a member of two-college club.
After graduating from SVC, Cribb plans to transfer to a four-year university where she will major in political science.
The All-Washington Academic Team has become the showcase for Washington’s community and technical colleges because it honors the academic high achievers.
