Oak Harbor remains perfect in pool
Oak Harbor High School’s swim team kept its undefeated record in tact Thursday afternoon in Everett, defeating Cascade 118-68.
Senior John Hu set state qualification marks with second-place finishes the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke with times of 1:48.04 and 56.61, respectively.

Wildcats score big Wesco North win
Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Everett Saturday evening, the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team rebounded in a big way on the home floor knocking off Lake Stevens 49-45 on Monday.
The game was a tight one start to finish with the Wildcats holding a 15-13 lead after the first quarter and a 24-20 halftime advantage.
Oak Harbor padded the lead with 12 additional points in the third quarter and held on to earn its fourth WesCo North victory of the season.
Jessica Denmon led a balanced scoring attack hitting for a game-high 19 points, including four from three-point range. Jennifer Jansen had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Nicole Mowbray also scored 11 points.
The win moves the Wildcats ahead of the Vikings and into third place in the league standings.
The Vikings, 4-4 league, 5-6 overall, edged within three points in the final quarter, but were unable to get any closer.
Stephanie Schumacher and Meghan Warbis scored in double figures for the Vikings hitting 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Everett 54, Oak Harbor 50
The second half of Saturday’s WesCo North basketball game at Everett was a disaster for Oak Harbor.
After taking a 30-25 halftime lead, the Wildcats were outscored 16-10 in the third quarter and 13-10 over the final eight minutes of the game to drop a 54-50 decision to the Seagulls.
With the win, Everett recorded its first league victory of the season. The Seagulls are 2-9 overall.
Denmon scored 15 points for Oak Harbor and Jansen had 11.
Ashley Hope tallied a game-high 16 points for Everett.
Vikings dismantle Oak Harbor
The league-leading Lake Stevens Vikings had no problem upping their league record to 8-1 and 11-2 overall, beating Oak Harbor 65-27 in a WesCo North basketball game Monday evening.
The Wildcats never got their offensive game on track, scoring just four points in the first and fourth quarters of the contest.
Lake Stevens was ahead 32-16 at halftime and put up 33 additional points in the second half while holding the Wildcats to 11.
Jay Stout and Mike Washington Jr. scored seven points apiece for Oak Harbor, 0-7 league, 1-10 overall.
Shane Kaska scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Vikings and teammate Sean Stickney had 10.
