Mount Vernon handed the Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team its fourth straight defeat, topping the visiting Wildcats 53-36 Tuesday, Dec. 8.

The Bulldogs used a 20-point third quarter to put the game away.

“Mount Vernon shot the ball well and defensively dared us to shoot, which we did not do well,” Wildcat coach John Weston said.

Oak Harbor’s Dyllan Harris came into the contest averaging 20 points per game, but the Bulldogs limited the senior to only five.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get a lot of help replacing his scoring,” Weston said.

Adam Nelson, who “showed a lot of hustle,” Weston said, led Oak Harbor with eight points.

“Sean Erskine played his biggest game of the year, with four points and nine boards,” Weston said. “He stayed out of foul trouble this game, which kept him on the floor and allowed him to contribute.”

While Harris struggled to score, he did “impact the game,” according to Weston, “playing tough defense” and grabbing nine rebounds.

The loss finished a run of three games in four nights for the Wildcats.

“We are excited to get back to work at practice,” Weston said. “We have three days to get better before we face a good Anacortes program.”

Oak Harbor (0-4) hosts the Seahawks (1-2) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.
