Whidbey Island had to wait a few days for its first baby of 2011.

The little tyke was born at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville, and nurses are describing the new resident as “cuter than cute.”

Jessica Hahn and Dean Brittain of Clinton are the proud parents of Elsie Citrine Brittain. Elsie weighs 8 pounds, 13 ounces and measures 18 inches long. The baby’s due date was Jan. 9, but the couple recently discovered that Elsie was breech, and she was taken by caesarean section Tuesday evening.

Elsie’s parents wanted to give her a traditional first name, but her middle name comes from a gemstone Hahn admires which symbolizes truth.

Hahn and Brittain, both Nichols Brothers Boat Builders employees, said they’re excited and a little bit nervous to take their daughter home. Elsie is the couple’s first child.

“I think when we pull out of the hospital driveway, it will be like ‘oh my gosh…’” Brittain said.

Elsie was delivered by WGH obstetrician Robert Burnett, one of Coupeville’s two OB/GYNs.

Aiden Michael Price, son of Aircrew Survival Equipmentman 2nd Class Michael and Samantha Price, attached to VP-40, missed the first baby mark by just a few short hours. Aiden was born at the Naval Hospital in Oak Harbor at 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 3, weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21 inches long.
