Oak Harbor High School boys golf team placed fourth in the five-team Wesco 3A North match at Whidbey Golf and Country Club Tuesday, March 26.
Everett captured the match with a stroke total of 415. Stanwood shot 423, Marysville Getchell 444, Oak Harbor 449 and Marysville-Pilchuck 457.
Raiden Poe, who shot a 40 on the front nine, and Jerin Applegarth, who shot a 39 on the back nine, led the Wildcats with 86’s.
Mac Kerfoot, in his first varsity match of 2013, followed with an 88. Hunter Adams finished with 94, Steven Timm 95 and Caleb Knaack 96.
Stanwood’s Halen Davis led the field with an 80.
Coach David Smith said, “I think the team could have done much better if the boys could have stayed focused on each shot and let the bad holes go. It never helps to focus on the negative things that happen on a golf course. It happens to anyone who plays golf and you need to learn to just let it go and move on to the next hole.”
The Wildcats are off until Wednesday, April 10, when they join the Wesco North schools at 2 p.m. at Stanwood’s Kayak Point Golf Course.
