Thomas advances to semifinals
Oak Harbor senior Derek Thomas advanced to the semifinals of the WesCo North tennis tournament defeating Andrew Karr from Snohomish 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round and then came back with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Arlington’s Garrett Meyer in the second round.
Ryan Evans also won his first-round singles match 6-1, 6-3 over Jake Thomas from Snohomish, but lost 6-0, 6-0 to Trevor Amsberry from Monroe in the second round.
In doubles action, the team of Paul Jewell and Joel Valles II won their first round match 6-4, 6-4 over the Stanwood team of Nick Karstetter and Zach Meyer. However, the Snohomish duo of Reed Pecha and Zach Stockwell eliminated the Wildcat team in the second round 6-1, 6-0.
Oak Harbor’s second doubles team of Jordan Kingma and Josh Evans lost 6-3, 7-6 to Teague Nelson and Chris Gilmore from Stanwood and were eliminated from competition.,

Tomahawks hack Wildcats
The Oak Harbor High School volleyball team hosted Marysville-Pilchuck in a WesCo North volleyball match and after three games Tuesday evening, the Tomahawks left little doubt why they are the league-leading team.
Jenna Welsh had 16 kills and Brittany Fitzmaurice added 27 assists, to lead Marysville Pilchuck to the 25-11, 25-7, 25-9 sweep. Jade Thompson had 23 digs for the Tomahawks (4-0 league, 7-3 overall).
The Wildcats (1-4 league, 3-8 overall) were led by Jennifer Jansen who scored five kills.
Oak Harbor shutout 3-0
Earlier in the season, Oak Harbor defeated the Marysville-Pilchuck soccer team 3-2 in overtime at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
On Tuesday night, the Tomahawks played host and defeated the Wildcats 3-0.
Lauren Schoonover had a shutout in goal for Marysville-Pilchuck and Leslie James had a goal and assist. The win gave the Tomahawks (2-8-3) their second win of the season. Daielle Norton scored the second goal, and Krista Riozzi tallied a goal on a penalty kick.
The loss dropped Oak Harbor’s season record to 1-12-1.
Lakewood bumps Coupeville 3-1
Continuing to prepare for the upcoming district tournament, the Coupeville High School traveled to Lakewood Wednesday evening for a match against the Cougars.
Lakewood won the first game 25-19, but the Wolves rallied to take the second game 25-20.
However, the Cougars came back to win the third and fourth games by scores of 25-18 and 25-22 to claim the victory.
Coupeville (3-9 league, 4-9 overall) was led by Linde Maertens who had 10 digs and nine kills.
Wolves blanked at Lakewood
Goals continue to be hard to come by for the Coupeville High School soccer team and on Tuesday, the Wolves traveled to Lakewood and were shutout 6-0 by the Cougars in a Cascade Conference match.
The loss dropped Coupeville’s league record to 2-10 and 2-12 overall.
