The Oak Harbor High School cheerleaders earned yet another award being named the Class 4A Sideline Champions at the annual Washington state Cheer Coaches Association Awards Banquet on April 18.

The award reads, “As a squad, they exemplify all the characteristics of great leadership. The cheer team is without a doubt a very involved group on campus. They aspired to lead their Wildcats to a successful and memorable high school experience. From the time the squad is selected, they begin reviewing what they need to continue and what they need to create in order to maintain their school’s incredible sense of pride. They posted, in the fieldhouse and Parker Hall, 3-foot people posters representing the activities and sports at Oak Harbor High School. This squad upholds many traditions at Oak Harbor High School. They started the school year greeting the buses with the leadership class. They created themes for games in order to generate a sense of excitement for the fans. At the Halloween game, they dressed in costume and joined the band and danced to Thriller. They worked jointly with other groups on campus like, NJROTC, the pep band and the leadership class to create energy and excitement for Wildcat athletics. The cheerleaders gave away many spirit items during games to motivate and thank the crowd for their participation and support. They offered a variety of ways to stimulate the students to participate through spirit contests and games. They also honored the athletes by decorating the locker rooms for the soccer, volleyball, football, and basketball teams and the mat room for wrestling. Their enthusiasm extended to the community by supporting Rotary’s Challenge Series for Kids with Special Needs, Help House food drives, Susan G. Kormen Race for the Cure, Downtown No Trick Safe Treats Night, Teddy Bear Breakfast and Oak Harbor Educational Foundation Breakfast.”

Four cheerleaders, Meghan Rikard, Beckie White, Willysha Shaw and Courtney Tuttle, were present to accept the award along with past year’s coach Pam Headridge and new head coach Robin Gohn.

Hanford High School won the 3A title and Burlington Edison High School was awarded title in the 2A division.
