Thanks to a donation from a prominent resident, the town of Coupeville is the owner of a piece of waterfront property.
The Coupeville Town Council Tuesday night accepted the donation of a 50-foot-long parcel of land north of Front Street from Ron Van Dyke.
Mayor Nancy Conard said the lot’s configuration makes it difficult to build on. She added in a memo that the lot depth has diminished over the years due to erosion.
The lot is located on the waterfront and, with the possible future acquisition of neighboring lots, there would be a chance to provide beach access, viewing locations or making improvements to the town’s stormwater outfall, Conard said, adding that she hopes neighboring property owners would consider a similar donation.
“I really appreciate his generosity,” Conard saidt of Van Dyk’s donation.
