The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is hosting a “Free to Be” one-mile track run at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the North Whidbey Middle School track.
This event is open to girls and boys along with men and women, with competition broken down by age groups.
Special categories for the event include walking, wheelchair, stroller, two-person teams and “lovers” holding hands.
Special awards will be presented to the top three places in each age group.
The cost to enter is $5 for individuals and $8 a couple. Beverages and dessert will be provided.
Parks and Recreation Director Craig Carlson requests that pre-registration forms be turned in by July 19.
There will also be registrations taken from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the track on the day of the race.
Entrants should check in no later than 3:45 p.m. on July 20.

Sign up for junior triathlon
The North Whidbey Park and Recreation Department presents the Whidbey Island Junior Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 10, beginning at 4 p.m.
The event is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 12, and men and women of any age, with relay teams composed of competitors of any age.
Competition is divided into categories for 6 to 12-year-old boys and girls, and an open category for older boys and girls along with men and women.
Competition will consist of swimming 10 widths of the pool, 147 yards, bicycling five laps, a distance of 2,000 yards, and finally a 600-yard run.
The bicycle race will be held on a closed course on grass and a helmet is required.
Special awards will be presented to the first three finishers in each division.
The cost to enter is $10 per person and includes a T-shirt and dessert after the event.
The cost to participate in the relay is $30 per team.
Preregistration is required by Aug. 1.
