The Granite Falls High School girls basketball team clamped a second-quarter press on Coupeville that helped the Tigers to a 51-32 win Friday, Jan. 28, over the visiting Wolves.

Granite Falls led 9-7 after the first quarter and exploded for 19 second-quarter points behind a press than resulted in a handful of Coupeville turnovers. That gave the Tigers (6-5, 8-9) a 27-15 halftime lead, and Granite Falls upped the difference to 15, 39-24, heading into the fourth quarter.

Coupeville coach Jackie Bykonen said, “They (Granite Falls) played pretty well, but they are beatable. I’m not disappointed in our work ethic, but it’s the minor mental mistakes that are hurting us.”

Kendra O’Keefe netted 13 points for the Wolves, following by Katie Smith with seven. Bessie Walstad tacked on six, Taya Boonstra two, Jai’Lysa Hoskins two and Courtney Arnold two.

The Wolves (2-9, 3-14) host Sultan (3-8, 3-14) tonight, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.
