Severns has common sense needed in job | Letters

Editor, I am the wife of a disabled combat veteran who, like Lucas Yonkman, served in Afghanistan and fought for our country. His time overseas makes us really appreciate those dedicated individuals who step up for their country. While serving in the military is honorable and builds amounts of character, it does not in and of itself provide qualifications to make decisions on behalf of a community.

Editor,

I am the wife of a disabled combat veteran who, like Lucas Yonkman, served in Afghanistan and fought for our country. His time overseas makes us really appreciate those dedicated individuals who step up for their country.

While serving in the military is honorable and builds amounts of character, it does not in and of itself provide qualifications to make decisions on behalf of a community.

Oak Harbor needs leaders who earned the trust of its citizens through decades of experience, leadership, and commitment. That being the case, my husband and I support Bob Severns for Oak Harbor City Council, Position No. 4.

Bob’s education, 40 years of business experience and leadership on more than a dozen boards and volunteer positions prepared him to research facts and make hard, independent choices free from the cronyism of an overreaching mayor trying to stack the political deck.

We need leaders with common sense experience to maintain a balance of power in our city government, leaders that represent all Oak Harbor citizens and make good decisions because they know in their heart that they are the right decisions.

Bob Severns is just such a committed, proven leader.
