North Whidbey erupts for win after slow start | 13/14 baseball

The North Whidbey Junior League (13/14) baseball team overcame a sluggish start to steamroll South Skagit 18-7 in the first game of the District 11 tournament Monday, June 27, at Fort Nugent Park.

The best-of-three series continues at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (if necessary) in Oak Harbor.

North Whidbey failed to score in the first two innings then exploded for the win.

After a six-run sixth inning broke open a close game, relievers George Dailey and Jeremiah Dailey pitched two innings of scoreless relief to help secure the win.

The North Whidbey offense slugged 11 hits and was aided by 16 walks, two hit batters and nine South Skagit errors.

Anthony Sisson, who started the game on the mound for North Whidbey, led the offense with three hits, including a double, and scored three runs.

George Dailey singled twice and scored twice; David Sisson hit a single and double, drove in two runs and tallied four times; and Ashton Mendiola was 2-for-2 with a run.

Keygan Kesgard walked five times and scored two runs; Landon Cantrell walked three times and scored four runs; and Hunter Hogarth singled, walked three times and was hit by a pitch.

Jeremiah Dailey added a single and two runs, and Nate Hummel walked twice, was hit by a pitch and forced in a run.
