An independent votes Democratic

Having been an independent business owner and one of the largest non-public sector employers in Island County for 30 years, I am often surprised and dismayed that the local and national media claim we independent voters and small business people support the programs and initiatives of the Republican Party. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Having been an independent business owner and one of the largest non-public sector employers in Island County for 30 years, I am often surprised and dismayed that the local and national media claim we independent voters and small business people support the programs and initiatives of the Republican Party. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Those of us who provide health insurance to our employees were hopeful the health care plan would “even the playing field” by providing health care for all, but the Republicans weakened the plan.

The media seems to think the electorate is confused as to the causes of the current economic situation. No, they are well aware it was Republican deregulation that was the proximate cause. They do, however, blame the Democrats for allowing the Republicans to slow the recovery. The Democratic Party is the majority party, after all. We independents just want the Democratic Party to develop the backbone to stand up to their vocal and misguided opposition.

It is not lost on me that over the last 120 years every time the United States experienced an economic recession or depression it was during and due to Republican administrations. Republicans claim to be the party of business but only the very wealthy ever do well under Republican rule. That is why if you vote for just about any Republican it will cost you! If you vote for Dino it will cost you! If you vote for Koster it will cost you! So this year I maintain my independence by voting Democratic!
