Read Ike before casting ballot

How can the county clerk or treasurer change your tax bill unless they abscond with our treasury? Wake up voters!

How can the county clerk or treasurer change your tax bill unless they abscond with our treasury? Wake up voters!

Does anyone remember the recession Ronald Reagan brought on the nation as President? It hit the Midwestern farm states so badly that newspapers were bewailing the number of farmers who had to sell out and who then committed suicide because they didn’t know any other way to live. I know, I read the newspapers. Reagan decried government subsidies for the family farmers who had grown America and heartlessly told them to get out of the way and let the big boys take over. Sure, it sounded righteously conservative, but when they did, they gave the big boys and huge corporations massive subsidies. What sort of hypocrisy is that?

Keep in mind that the self-centered rich and powerful didn’t get that way by giving anything away. With all its warts and flaws, government is still the best thing going for common people like most of us, especially if people pay attention and get involved. Without government, we’ll be going right back to the old days of owners and serfs.

Don’t let your vote be a knee-jerk that will elect the kind of people who will end up jerking us all around. Our nation’s greatest years came from the presidencies of FDR, and Eisenhower. But it’s in jeopardy right now. Before you vote, take a few minutes to read Ike’s farewell address as he left office. It’s on the internet. He was a straight shooter both as a soldier and president.
