Volunteers step up at the Island County Fair

Thanks for a great Island County Fair!

Our volunteers and staff never cease to amaze us! On the heels of a significant budget cut, we are redeveloping how we manage our WSU Island County Extension 4-H Program. One of the biggest changes we’ve made is the reduction of staff support for the fair – which meant we needed a lot more support from our volunteers this year. They all came through with flying colors!

Our Leaders’ Council took on most of the responsibility for coordinating all of the planning that takes place in the months before fair, and for managing all of the different kinds of situations that arise when you gather 270 kids, their families, and their animals in one location. Our club leaders and superintendents pulled together to retrofit several of the barns and to get the 4-H’ers in place for judging.

Our kids showed up with their best attitudes and lots of information to share with the public. And 4-H Program Coordinator Jackie Vannice worked magic with the limited time she had to devote to the big show. We are so lucky to live in a community that gives rise to this spirit of teamwork. Thank you one and all.
