Oak Harbor youth football and cheer, with the help of several local organizations, will be awarded an automatic external defibrillator for Fort Nugent Park at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9.
The award is a joint project between the non-profit Whidbey General Hospital Foundation and Whidbey General Hospital EMS.
Paramedic Robert May, who has taught many of the youth coaches in first aid, CPR and AED training, believes the AED is an extension of this training and a way for the entire community of Oak Harbor to benefit.
May, Oak Harbor Youth Football President Eric Marshall, Whidbey General Hospital CEO Geri Forbes and hospital commissioner Ron Wallin, a member of the Whidbey General Hospital Foundation, will install the new device at the park during the awards ceremony.
Instruction in how to use the device, which will remain in the park, and hands-only CPR will be demonstrated for those in attendance.
