Professional football fans have had their itch for the beginning of a new season scratched as the Seahawks and the other clubs began practice weeks ago and completed a pair of preseason games. Now, high school fans can join the fun as prep football starts Wednesday across Washington state.
Both Oak Harbor and Coupeville jump right in with a pair of practices tomorrow, Aug. 20.
The Wildcats will go with no pads from 8:30-11 a.m. and 1:30-4 p.m.
Coupeville hits the field from 1-3 and 4-6 p.m.
Oak Harbor will turn out only once, 8:30-11 a.m., Thursday and Friday; the Wildcats continue with two-a-days Saturday and Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 25-27, with pads.
Single practices from 8:30-11 a.m. are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, with a scrimmage slated for Saturday.
Oak Harbor opens the season at home with Monroe at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
Coupeville will go with its two-a-day schedule through Monday, Aug. 25, and then practice 3-5:15 p.m through Saturday.
Coach Tony Maggio said the Wolves may play in a jamboree with Burlington and La Conner in La Conner Friday, Aug. 29.
Coupeville opens it season with South Whidbey at Mickey Clark Field at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
The other high school sports begin practice Monday, Aug. 25.
