The Oak Harbor High School wrestling team won one of three matches at the Lynden Duals Tournament Saturday, Jan. 2.
The Wildcats opened the day by losing to Sehome 43-40. Next they handled Federal Way 54-24 before falling to Anacortes 48-40.
Oak Harbor was stung by forfeits.
The ‘Cats gave up 18 points in all three matches because they could not fill three weight classes. Coach Mike Crebbin said Oak Harbor was short-handed because some athletes were injured, gone for the holidays or ineligible.
The lost 18 points “really hurt,” according to Crebbin, in the two losses since Oak Harbor dropped the matches by only three and eight points. In the win over Federal Way, the Wildcats lost just one contested bout.
Joshua Crebbin (140 pounds), Colton Elliot (145) and Brandon Stratton (152) each won all three of their matches even though they each wrestled up a weight class. Coach Crebbin said Stratton not only won all three, but picked up three pins in the process.
Crebbin said, “We are looking better; guys are getting down to their weight classes. We are wrestling well for the middle of the season.”
